Why does the world have to keep losing great people?

As many of you know, Freddie Mercury, one of the greatest vocalists, performers, and people ever to have graced us died on this date in 1991 due to bronchial pneumonia that was worsened by the AIDS virus. Freddie, I hope you know that you'll always be in my heart and I'll never, ever forget you and your legacy. <3

I watched Milk with my mum a few minutes ago and was pretty moved. I know movies that document people aren't always perfectly accurate, but I don't care. My eyes were opened wide when I saw that in 1978, the U.S...the world was robbed of a great activist that stood for equal rights. Predominantly for gay rights, particularly in the San Fransisco and southern California area, the first openly gay man to be elected to a notable government office showed the frightened how to stand up for themselves and not be afraid. He taught them that without hope, life isn't worth living, and that you can't ever give up. Harvey Milk led a gay rights movement in the 60s and 70s against many homophobic figures, including Anita Bryant and Dan White, who eventually assassinated Mr. Milk in 1978 before killing himself two years later at nearly the same spot. Mr. Milk was a figure that inspired many, gay and straight, black and white, to stand up for themselves and not be pushed away by other people that just don't understand. He had four boyfriends during his protests, campaigns and movements, and each of the men committed suicide due to the sheer fear of being cast out or injured just because they were gay. After Mr. Milk was cremated, his friends cast his ashes into the San Fransisco Bay, right where they knew he belonged.

So I must say I'm feeling sad tonight, but I just know that to speak the name and actions of the dead is to let them and their legacy live forever.
